Legal Minimum Age, To Get Married Around The World

The legal minimum age to get married is different in each country around the world. In Iran, people can get married if they have turned 9 but in China, the person needs to turn 22  to get married.

 Different countries have different rules regarding age when people should get married.  The Spanish government has made changes regarding the age at which a child can get married.  they changed it from 14 years to 16 years of age. In Estonia, Europe a teenager can get married at the age of 15 years with the approval of their parents.

Around the world, the legal age to get married in 17 years for boys and for girls is 16 years of age.  In Massachusetts, United States the girls are allowed to get married at the age of 12 years when there is an exceptional circumstance and when the judge gives consent.

In China, Men should get married at the age of 22 years And women should get married at the age of 20. These rules are according to the Chinese population control policy. Many countries do not declare child marriages as a crime but the marriage is considered invalid.

 In India, the legal age to get married in 18 years for girls and 21 years for boys. Child marriages are prohibited in India.

 In the United States, ten Million women married before 18 years of age in the year 2013. In Niger, the legal age to get married in 15 years, and most of the girls get married before their 18th birthday.

The executive director of girls not brides told that many treaties point towards setting a minimum age of marriage 18 years of age. Due to religious laws,  parental consent, boys and girls can get married at a young age.

Many countries do not have a strong marriage registration system and they cannot protect girls from child marriage. Different countries have different laws regarding the minimum age to get married.
